Jessica Somers
Jessica Somers, born in Sudbury, Ontario, and currently living in Lavigne, Ontario, Jessica Somers is Abenaki from Odanak. Deeply influenced by her grandmother’s love for scenic and wildlife painting and her father’s dedication to carpentry, Jessica developed a strong artistic foundation rooted in hard work, creativity, and cultural expression.
Jessica’s artwork reflects the natural world and the ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. Inspired by the teachings of elders in her community and Nation, she creates paintings that honor her heritage—preserving and sharing stories that connect past and present. Through her art, Jessica seeks peace, shares wisdom, teaches moral lessons, and tells meaningful stories. She views art as an act of survivance—a way to uphold history, express Indigenous identity, and keep traditions alive for future generations.
